Momentum: Republicans think they have it – Give me a break...

TITLE: The GOP's "Momentum" is Just Democrats Being Democrats

Okay, so I'm supposed to believe the GOP is riding high into 2026? Give me a break. It's not like they suddenly got competent; it's just the Democrats are doing what they do best: tripping over themselves.

The Usual Suspects

This memo from the NRCC is dripping with self-congratulatory BS. They're patting themselves on the back because Democrats have a "weakest brand in decades." As if the GOP is some shining beacon of unity and reason. Please. They benefit from the Democrats' infighting, and it’s ALWAYS a damn show. The NRCC crows about how voters see Dems as "higher taxes, weak leadership, a soft-on-crime stance, open borders, and wokeness."

"Wokeness." That word is so overused it’s lost all meaning. It's the right's favorite boogeyman. What does it even MEAN anymore?

And let's be real, the GOP isn't exactly brimming with policy ideas that appeal to anyone under 60 who isn't already in their echo chamber.

They're bragging about fundraising, too. Apparently, they're up $723,000 on the DCCC. Seven hundred grand? In the grand scheme of political spending, that's like finding loose change in your couch cushions. But hey, gotta spin it, right?

The Inevitable Midterm Curse (with a Twist)

Historically, the party in power gets hammered in the midterms. It's practically written in stone. The NRCC is quick to point out that in 2018, Republicans lost 40 seats. And in 2022, Democrats lost 9. So, logically, 2026 should be... what? Another bloodbath for the party in power?

Momentum: Republicans think they have it – Give me a break...

Maybe. But here's the twist: the NRCC claims they're in a stronger position now than the GOP was before the 2018 "blue wave". They say Democrats only have a 3.6 percentage point edge on the generic congressional ballot, compared to a 9-point lead back then. According to an internal memo, Republicans believe they have "clear momentum" heading into the 2026 midterms.

Okay, that's a difference. But polls this far out are about as reliable as a weather forecast for next summer.

And this whole "out of touch" narrative? The NRCC claims 70% of Americans think Democrats are disconnected. Maybe they are. But are Republicans any better? I mean, seriously, are we really choosing between two flavors of "out of touch?"

The Redistricting Wildcard (and My Electric Bill)

The memo conveniently ignores the redistricting mess. States are gerrymandering districts into oblivion, creating safe seats for incumbents and making actual competition a joke. Why isn't that mentioned? Oh right, because it doesn't fit the "clear momentum" narrative.

Speaking of things that are rigged, my electric bill just doubled. What's up with that? Is anyone actually doing anything about the cost of living, or are we just supposed to accept that everything's going to keep getting more expensive while politicians bicker about pronouns and culture wars?

The DCCC's response is equally predictable. They say the midterms will be about "who is going to lower costs." Yeah, right. That's what they always say. And does it ever happen? Nope.

So, What's the Real Story?

It ain't "momentum." It's just the Democrats' spectacular talent for self-destruction giving the GOP a free pass. The whole thing is exhausting.
